A new collaboration for an ethical project

If you are looking for relaxing holidays in a safe paradise and want to contribute to an ethical cause either, you are at the right place!

We are pleased to announce the opening of Wild Cottages Sanctuary on first trimester 2023. This project is the result of a partnership between Wild Cottages Luxury and Natural and Samui Elephant Haven. You will have the opportunity to relax in our luxurious resort with a view not only of the sea and Koh Phangan Island, but also of a 20-rai elephant natural sanctuary in the middle of the luxurious jungle of Koh Samui. This is the first resort with a view on a sanctuary and the sea ever made in Thailand.

The protection of the nature, social and cultural engagement is the key to preserve the world for future generations. At Wild Cottages, we are constantly working to become even more socially, ecologically and economically sustainable.

A share of the profits will be donated to Elephant Samui Haven. So by simply staying in Wild Cottages Sanctuary, you are helping to keep the sanctuary running and to save other elephants that are still suffering from the tourism-trekking industry.

An ethical sanctuary

There are 21 free-ranging elephants living in the sanctuary. The founder, Maew Suriya, opened this complex in August 2018. Since then, no less than 14 elephants have been rescued from the industry and elephant trekking tourism. Thanks to Maew, those stressful lives are now behind them. Today, they are free to express their nature to the full, feeding on native plants and playing in the mud ponds that were custom-built for them. “I chose love over money,” says Maew.

“My plan and dream is to buy land so that we can have total security for our ever-growing herds; to continue to educate people about ethical tourism and say ‘no’ to trekking and swimming and to always continue to save the abused elephants.”

This lavish ethical project was inspired by Sangduean “Lek” Chailert, a leading name in elephant rights advocacy. Maew Suriya was guided by Lek’s ‘Saddle Off’ model. With the promotion of the Save Elephant Foundation and Asian Elephant Projects, Samui Elephant Haven is now thriving and is a perfect fit for elephant rights.
